How to view, comment on, or find the decision on a planning application.

Maintenance to our planning application search

We'll be carrying out some updates from Tuesday 30 November to Saturday 4 December to improve the way our planning application search and comments system works.

While we carry out these works you will not be able to see or comment on any of our planning applications, appeals or enforcements.

You will also not be able to log into your online account to search for saved applications or comments.

Commenting on current applications

We will be allowing extra time for you to comment on any current applications.

Representations on planning applications: We are currently receiving a large number of comments on planning applications. If you have sent in a comment and it has not yet been published on our site, please be assured that we are working as quickly as possible to get all representations published.
 

Search for and comment on an application

Before a planning application is decided, you can give us your views on it. You can support, object to or make a general comment. We'll take your comments into account when we make a decision on the application. 

Send your comments online

You will need to search for the planning application and log in or register before you can send us your comments​. Please note that our system may time out after approximately 20 minutes and so you may wish to prepare your comments in advance.

View and comment on planning applications

If you have not used our planning system before, we have some guidance on commenting on a planning application.

If you are sending us comments by email or letter you'll need to include:

  • the planning application reference number (starting UTT/)
  • the address of the site
  • your name
  • your address

Send your comments through your councillor

You can also contact your local councillor and send us your comment through them.

What you can comment on

We can only take planning issues into account when deciding on a planning application. The type of issues vary depending on the proposal and also the location of the site and its surroundings such as:

  • loss of light or privacy
  • design and appearance of the proposed development
  • character of the local area
  • parking and traffic
  • highway safety
  • noise and smells
  • loss of trees and landscaping
  • impact on listed buildings and conservation areas

Your personal details

All comments made on planning applications must be made available for public inspection. This means that:

  • your comment, name and address will be included with the planning application documents
  • we'll publish your comment, name and address with the application on our website

We will make sure any other personal or sensitive information is removed before publishing your comment. Sensitive information can includes things such as your signature, email address and telephone number. Keeping up to date with an application

You can follow the progress of an application. To do this you'll first need to search for the planning application​.

Decisions

Planning applications are decided either by the Assistant Director Planning through delegated powers or by Planning Committee.

Once a decision has been made on an application you can see it on the our website To do this you'll first need to search for the planning application​.
 

Copyright

The plans, drawings and material available as part of any application on our planning system are protected by copyright (Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 section 47).

You may only use copies which you have downloaded and/or printed for your own consultation purposes, to compare current applications with previous schemes and to check whether developments have been completed in accordance with approved plans.
