Have your say on Local Plan changes

Members of the public will shortly be able to have their say on some changes made to the Uttlesford Local Plan.

Councillors last night (Tuesday 9 October) approved the limited changes to the plan which mainly relate to the proposed cross-boundary West of Braintree Garden Community (see 'Notes'). It has been necessary to make the changes to ensure the plan meets technical and legal planning tests, and so that it is sound.

People can make representations on the changes - which have been published in a document known as an 'Addendum of Focussed Changes' - between 9am on Tuesday 16 October and 5pm on Tuesday 27 November 2018. Following this period the plan will be submitted, along with the representations, to the government for independent examination.

It is important to note that the changes do not alter the strategy or vision of the plan, and therefore the council will only be accepting comments that arise from new information contained in the addendum, or newly published elements of the evidence base.

The quickest and easiest way to read the Addendum of Focussed Changes document and to provide feedback is via the website. A consultation form is available on the website which is designed to help everyone follow the guidelines and submit comments in the right way for the planning inspector.

Paper copies of the document are also available to view at the Uttlesford District Council Offices in Saffron Walden, the council's Customer Service Desk at Great Dunmow Library, Saffron Walden Library, and Thaxted Community Information Centre. Copies have also been distributed to town and parish councils.

Written responses can be made by email to: planningpolicy@uttlesford.gov.uk or by post to: Planning Policy Team, Uttlesford District Council, London Road, Saffron Walden CB11 4ER. People submitting responses by email or post are encouraged to use the consultation form which is available to download from the council website or in paper form from the venues listed above.

Next steps

Uttlesford District Council remains on course to formally submit the Local Plan this winter to the Secretary of State for independent examination.

It is anticipated the hearing sessions for the examination of the plan by a Planning Inspector will commence in early 2019.
