Carol concert cash for charity
A civic carol concert hosted by Cllr Richard Freeman, the Chair of Uttlesford District Council, has raised hundreds of pounds for a local sight loss charity.
About 100 people attended the event at Thaxted Parish Church on 5 December and they enjoyed singing along to some festive carol favourites.
Almost £900 was raised from a retiring collection and other donations which will go towards Cllr Freeman's chosen charity for 2019-20, Support 4 Sight.
Cllr Freeman said: "Vision is the most vital of our senses and its impairment is a serious loss for any of us. Support 4 Sight is a charity dedicated to helping those with limited sight, and provides a truly invaluable service and facility for so many people.
"So I am very grateful that our civic carol service raised nearly £900. It is a privilege to be able to support Support 4 Sight and its good work."
Gary Hyams, Chief Executive Officer at Support 4 Sight, said: "This kind donation enables us to provide essential support services to blind and partially sighted people in Uttlesford including home visits and coffee mornings."
