Election of Councillors for the District Ward of Newport and the District Ward of The Sampfords - 6 May 2021

On Thursday 6 May 2021, by-elections for the District of Newport Ward and the District of The Sampfords Ward will take place along with the Essex County Council Election and the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex election postponed from last May.

The polling stations in these areas will therefore have more than 2 ballot papers. See the different types of ballot papers.

 

About the election

Councillors are elected to the local council to represent their local community. There is one vacancy in the Newport ward following the recent resignation of Anthony Gerard and one vacancy in The Sampfords ward following the recent death of Councillor Alan Storah.

All the important dates, such as the last day to register to vote and the closing date to apply, amend or cancel a postal vote, are available on our Timetable for the elections being held on 6 May 2021 page.
 

Who can vote

You can vote in either by-election if you are on the electoral register, are a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of the European Union and live in the relevant ward (Newport ward or The Sampfords ward). The deadline for all registration applications, in time for this election is midnight on Monday 19 April 2021
